Liquid Stream Process Assessment at the City of Toronto’s Humber WWTP

Client:

City of Toronto

Location:

Toronto, ON

Budget:

$1,400,000

XCG Consultants Ltd. is leading the liquid stream process assessment of the City of Toronto’s Humber Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The primary objective of the project is to identify improvements to the liquid treatment train process equipment, infrastructure, and administrative, operational and maintenance practices to enhance operational control and process performance. Particular targets for improvement are suspended solids and phosphorus removal, but the overall goal is to improve process robustness at all flow conditions.

The project involves an intensive two-phased program of historic data analysis and field investigations. Each unit process comprising the liquid treatment train will be subject to extensive process investigations to identify opportunities to improve performance. The outcome of the study will be up to 10 proposed upgrades developed to the conceptual level and selected based on a Workshop with plant management and operational staff. These projects may become part of the long term capital upgrade project currently being tendered.

The liquid stream process assessment includes the design and construction of repairs to address problems with the aeration tank air distribution piping and air diffusers. Also included in the project is the leveling of the weirs in the secondary clarifiers to address flow distribution problems in the secondary process.
