Investigate/Delineate First, Dig Later (If At All) -Residential Fuel Oil Release Subsurface Investigation

Residential home owners (the Client) noticed drips of fuel oil coming from the bottom of a 910-litre steel fuel oil AST in the basement of their house. They contacted the company that maintains the AST to come and assess/repair the leak. During the tank inspection a section of the tank shell come off, releasing fuel oil to the basement floor.

Engineering Design Services for 2020 Landfill Expansion – Alberta-Pacific Landfill

XCG was retained by Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. to undertake the detailed design of the 2020 Landfill Expansion at the Alberta-Pacific Landfill (Site). The Alberta-Pacific Landfill is a pulp mill landfill accepting fly ash, grate ash, reject lime, dregs/grits, alum sludge and biosolids wastes from the on-Site pulp plant. XCG undertook the detailed design for the new engineered landfill expansion in 2019 in anticipation of construction in 2020.

XCG undertook a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Assessment and subsequent reporting for the Knockholt Sub-Regional Landfill (Site) as the Site was exceeding the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) threshold for GHG reporting of 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) per year.

Stage 2 Final Closure Design – Nanaimo Regional Landfill

XCG was retained by the Regional District of Nanaimo to undertake the detailed design (up to 90%) of the Stage Two Final Closure at the Nanaimo Regional Landfill (Site). XCG undertook the detailed design for this partial closure area in 2018 in anticipation of a construction date of 2019 or 2020.

The Phase I ESAs and BCAs were required to be conducted in the retail/commercial or quick-service restaurant buildings on 46 properties within Ontario and Quebec. Due to the large number of individual sites, all of which were occupied by tenants, project management and communication between all parties was critical to the project success.

Designated Substances and Hazardous Materials Surveys

XCG Consulting Limited and Cole Engineering Group Ltd. Joint Venture (COLE & XCG JV) were retained by a government agency on behalf of the owner and manager of the facilities to complete Designated Substances and Hazardous Material Surveys (DSHMS), to update the designated substance inventory database, and to serve as a resource for the facilities in the management of their buildings within the project site.

XCG completed an updated Design, Operations, and Closure Plan, Phase 1 Closure Design Brief, and Conformance Review for the Revelstoke Landfill. The site, which is contained over two properties, includes a municipal solid waste landfill, transfer station, composting area, marshalling areas, recycling area, weigh scale, and operational infrastructure.
