|Client:||Regional District of Nanaimo|
XCG was retained by the Regional District of Nanaimo to undertake the detailed design of the North Berm Lateral Expansion at the Nanaimo Regional Landfill.
A design strategy was developed to meet the following objectives:
• Improve stability of the affected north slopes;
• Reduce risk of adverse impact to existing environmental controls in the aforementioned area;
• Improve, rehabilitate, or replace any identified deficient environmental controls in the northeast quadrant of the site associated with the project; and
• Continue to improve the performance of existing environmental controls and any associated interdependent systems (e.g. landfill gas collection system, etc.).
The design included:
− Berm alignment and perimeter haul road;
− Sanitary and stormwater infrastructure;
− North stormwater pond/wetland concepts;
− Leachate collection system (lateral expansion and overlay components); and
− Landfill gas collection system.
Engineering services included drawing and contract preparation, contract administration, construction oversight, and preparation of as-built drawings and construction report. Construction oversight included daily site inspections, submittal review, progress meetings, quality assurance testing and final inspection. XCG also prepared a fill plan for the expansion area.
